  • Introduction to Dream SMP(0'355'01)
Dream SMP is a survival multiplayer server structured like professional wrestling with planned plot points and improvised connective tissue. It combines scripted narrative with real gameplay moments.
    • Over 30 people involved in the narrative • Hundreds of hours of live streaming content • Close to 100 videos to watch, each 6-8 hours long • Political story with warring factions seeking power
Like Hamilton the musical, this theory condenses months of live streams into a character study centered on one hero, with a tragic ending.
Examining who history has focused on and who should be watched going forward, centered on a character who is already dead but poised to rise again.
  • The Rise of Jay Schlatt(5'019'37)
    • Greater Dream SMP led by Dream with executive veto over membership • Lmanburg declared independence in late July with an autocratic structure • Wilbur Soot served as self-appointed dictator with Tommy Innit as right-hand man
Wilbur Soot held a democratic election to increase legitimacy. POG 2020 ran under Wilbur and Tommy against SWAG 2020 led by Quackity and George Not Found. Jay Schlatt hijacked the election by securing Quackity's endorsement.
    • Jay Schlatt was banned from the server in July but returned for the election • His appearance upended the political landscape • POG 2020 attempted coalition building with SWAG 2020 to stop him • Quackity felt used and gave his votes to Schlatt instead
POG 2020 received 45 percent, SWAG 2020 received 30 percent, and Jay Schlatt won with 46 percent after receiving SWAG's votes. He immediately exiled the POG leadership and established his reign of terror.
  • Schlatt's Tyrannical Rule(9'3713'08)
    • Immediately exiled the POG 2020 campaign from Manburg • Called democracy a lie and ruled through fear and punishment • Had a spy, Tubbo, embedded in the opposition to gather intelligence
Jay Schlatt is lawful evil in D&D terms. He was elected fairly and will rule until losing the next election. He uses power malevolently to assert dominance and punish rebellious factions, prioritizing suffering over justice.
Jay Schlatt organized the Manburg Festival to celebrate democracy. The exiled POG faction planned to blow up the stage with TNT, but Schlatt caught Tubbo and encased him in yellow concrete before executing him with a rocket launcher.
Jay Schlatt died during the festival explosion, though he later survived. His death was anti-climactic, involving him getting drunk in a hot dog van and possibly experiencing a stroke. He received a funeral with everyone picking apart his body for souvenirs.
  • Resurrection and Future Predictions(13'0816'47)
    • Wilbur Soot mentioned each character gets three canon deaths before permanent death • Jay Schlatt has only used two of his three lives so far • Quackity recovered all five of Jay Schlatt's bones from his grave
Quackity plans to use necromancy to reanimate Jay Schlatt as a political puppet to seize control of Manburg. However, this mirrors the Frankenstein story where the creator loses control of the monster.
Jay Schlatt functions as a force of nature punishing people for their hubris. Those who tried to use him as a tool to achieve their own ends ended up destroyed by him instead, creating cycles of conflict.
Anyone seizing power will trigger Jay Schlatt's return and eventual takeover. Like the Joker in The Dark Knight, his power lies in bringing out the worst in others. The only way to stop him is for people to choose their better selves.
