Le mensonge ?

Le mensonge ?

What does this agreement actually contain and does it really mark the end of tensions?
7 chapters
  • The agreement between the United States and Greenland(0'00 → 4'30)
Greenland is an autonomous territory located near the Arctic, controlled by Denmark for centuries, associated with the European Union and an indirect member of NATO. At the start of the year, Donald Trump had described Greenland as an absolute necessity for national security and did not rule out resorting to military force.
    • Unexplored economic resources: oil and rare earths • New Arctic trade routes linked to melting ice • Strategic position between North America and Europe facing potential Russian missiles • The United States already owns Greenland's only military base (17 during the Cold War)
    • The official document has not yet been made public • It is to be signed this week in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly • It will need to be ratified by the parliaments of Greenland and Denmark • Prohibition for any country hostile to the United States (China, Russia) from establishing a military presence or sensitive investments • Trump announces the development of a significant military presence, with three new American bases • The Golden Dome antimissile shield project could also be installed in Greenland
    • Marco Rubio calls it a huge victory for Trump • Denmark and Greenland hail a strengthening of common security while reaffirming their sovereignty • The agreement falls far short of the complete annexation initially demanded by Trump • A 1951 agreement already allowed the United States to build bases and deploy troops in Greenland • Some experts see it as a way to reassure Trump's electorate before the midterm elections
  • Fuel shortage in France(4'30 → 5'21)
91% of Total Energies gas stations are out of at least one type of fuel, according to Economy Minister Roland Lescure. Hauts-de-Seine is the most affected department with nearly 34% of stations out of stock, followed by Sarthe with over 32%.
Total Energies imposed a price cap on diesel and gasoline, prompting motorists to flock to these stations.
According to the minister, there is no concern about supply as the government has visibility over one or two months thanks to tracking of tankers and stocks.
The price of diesel reached a new record of €2.82 per liter on average, more than 10 cents higher in a week, according to Figaro.
  • Legislative elections in Russia(5'21 → 6'28)
    • United Russia won 57.5% of votes after counting three-quarters of ballots • Communists obtained 14% • Liberal Democratic Party (nationalists) obtained 8.7%
It was the first time since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 that Russians voted to renew the State Duma, responsible for voting on federal laws and the budget, and approving the appointment of the Prime Minister.
No party opposed to the war was allowed to run, the exiled opposition called for blocking the authorities, and the European Union denounced an election organized in a climate of systematic repression.
The ruling party improved its 2021 score (49.8%) and appears assured of retaining its two-thirds majority, the threshold allowing it to amend the Constitution alone.
  • AfD breakthrough in Germany(6'28 → 7'33)
The AfD came first in regional elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with nearly 38% of votes, outpacing the Social Democratic Party which obtained around 36%.
The Social Democratic Party, which has led the region since 1998, is expected to retain control of the regional parliament by allying with other left-wing parties.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz's party failed to reach 5% of votes and will not enter the regional parliament, a first in postwar German history for the conservative party.
    • The chancellor acknowledged an electoral disaster but ruled out stepping down • He canceled his trip to New York for the UN General Assembly • He called an emergency CDU meeting • This breakthrough comes two weeks after the AfD's victory in Saxony-Anhalt with over 44% of votes
  • Macron-Trump meeting in New York(7'33 → 8'15)
Emmanuel Macron is to meet with US President Donald Trump on Monday in New York, without the precise content of their exchange being known in advance.
On September 7, Trump had published a map showing Canada, Greenland and several French territories (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon) under the colors of the American flag.
In response, Emmanuel Macron defended the sovereignty of their respective countries from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The meeting takes place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which opens Tuesday and runs until September 28. Macron will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Middle Eastern leaders including Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian.
  • Mass deportations by Trump administration(8'15 → 9'31)
    • Over 25,000 people deported to countries that are not theirs in less than two years • Over 20,000 sent to Mexico • Over 120 sent to Ecuador • Over 100 sent to Ghana
An investigation by the Forbidden Stories consortium reveals that these people were sometimes held without being charged and deprived of rights once deported to a country of which they are not citizens.
    • 35 countries have concluded agreements with the United States, a third of them in Africa • 49 of 54 African countries are said to have been approached • The Bureau of Remigration, created by the Trump administration in May 2025, implemented this policy • Approximately $410 million is said to have been spent • Eswatini received $5 million to host 32 people
NGOs Human Rights First and Refugees International denounce agreements that treat immigrants and refugees as bargaining chips, reflecting a transactional and corrupt approach to the Trump administration's foreign policy.
  • Rise in bone marrow donations(9'31 → 10'33)
53,000 new donors registered since the start of the year on the bone marrow donor list of the Biomedecine Agency, compared to around 35,000 new registered donors throughout 2025.
This increase follows an appeal for donations launched by the parents of Iò, a 5-year-old boy with leukemia, who had already been mentioned in this format.
Each year in France, approximately 2,300 people need a bone marrow donation from a compatible donor, particularly to treat serious blood disorders such as leukemias, as compatibility between two individuals is rare.
Some new registered donors have already been called to make a donation, Iò himself found a compatible donor and received his transplant last June, and the Biomedecine Agency acknowledges that his parents' appeal gave a major boost to registrations.
